Planning for pregnancy
Planning for pregnancy
For couples who are eager to have a child, there are several details that should be noted. It is recommended to maintain sexual intercourse 2-3 times a week, and moderate sexual activity can help capture the ovulation period and increase the chances of conception. If there are difficulties in sexual intercourse, couples can seek help from centres with sexual therapy services.
In addition, it is recommended to maintain a happy mood, engage in moderate exercise, avoid drinking beverages containing caffeine, and avoid smoking and drinking alcohol. Women who are underweight and overweight may also affect ovulation, and obese men may have a lower sperm count and quality. Therefore, both couples should maintain their ideal weight, and their body mass index (BMI) should be between 18.5-22.9. Women should start taking folic acid supplements before pregnancy to prevent the risk of neural tube problems in the fetus.
Before preparing for pregnancy, it is recommended for couples to undergo pre-pregnancy check-ups to understand their health conditions. If they are still unable to conceive after trying and receiving treatment, they can choose to undergo assisted reproductive treatment after diagnosis and evaluation by a doctor.
